Choose Idle Pilot for Slack or Microsoft Teams presence during saved Work Hours with the laptop closed, asleep, or off. Idle Pilot costs $9 per month or $60 per year. TECH8 still needs an awake computer. Disclosure: Idle Pilot wrote this page and makes one of the two products. TECH8 USA Mouse Mover facts come from its own site, checked October 28, 2026. Idle Pilot is not affiliated with TECH8 USA Mouse Mover. ## Quick Verdict TECH8 fits local mouse activity without software; Idle Pilot fits a saved Slack or Teams presence schedule that continues after the computer sleeps. A hardware mover can help with local inactivity while the computer stays awake. Idle Pilot runs the saved schedule from the cloud, so local power and cursor movement are unnecessary. The advertised TECH8 offer is a one-time hardware purchase; Idle Pilot is a recurring service. ## Feature Comparison | Feature | Idle Pilot | TECH8 USA Mouse Mover | | --- | --- | --- | | Platforms | Slack or Microsoft Teams (one at a time) | Compatible optical or laser mouse; specific OS versions not stated in FAQ | | Where it runs | Cloud | Powered hardware beneath your mouse | | How it works | Maintains the connected Slack or Teams session | Moves the mouse sensor over a spinning disc | | Works with your laptop closed | Yes, including when asleep or off | No closed-lid support documented; computer must be awake | | Keeps Teams or Slack Available | Yes, during saved Work Hours | Teams claim in vendor FAQ; no Slack claim verified | | Monthly price | $9 | No recurring plan stated; hardware purchase | | Yearly price | $60 | $19.99 advertised for Vinyl Record model (Oct 2026); varies | | Free trial | 3-day free trial · No credit card; 7 days when linked within 3 hours of sign-up | No free trial stated; sold as hardware | | Setup | Desktop Chrome and the Idle Pilot extension, once | Supply 5V USB power and position the mouse over the disc | | Schedule | Saved Work Hours | Controls vary; dual-disc manual lists elapsed timers, not weekday hours | ## Detailed Comparison TECH8's physical mover uses a spinning surface under your existing mouse. Idle Pilot maintains one Slack workspace or one Microsoft Teams account from the cloud. This comparison is written by Idle Pilot, which makes one of the products. TECH8's FAQ includes Teams in its claim about preventing automatic Away, but does not name Slack. Treat that as the vendor's claim, rather than an independently tested result. Microsoft documents Away after locking, idling, or sleeping; Slack documents away after 10 minutes of desktop inactivity. The important limit is the computer's state. A powered mover can continue turning while a computer sleeps, but its local input cannot run a sleeping or powered-off Slack or Teams client. No closed-lid operation is documented in the checked TECH8 material. Idle Pilot continues during saved Work Hours with the laptop closed, asleep, or off. The $19.99 homepage advertisement applies to the Vinyl Record model and was checked on October 28, 2026. Prices vary, and checkout stock was not independently confirmed. Do not apply the dual-disc manual's controls to every variant: that manual describes activity levels and one-hour, two-hour, or continuous operation. No weekday schedule was verified. TECH8 needs a compatible mouse and power, without a software installation or a linked Slack or Teams session. Idle Pilot costs $9 per month or $60 per year. It has a 3-day free trial without a credit card, starting at the first Slack or Teams connection; linking within 3 hours of sign-up gives 7 days. Initial linking needs desktop Chrome and the Idle Pilot extension, which can be removed afterward. A wall charger avoids a USB data connection from the mover to the computer; it does not make the mouse's activity private. Windows applications can receive mouse input and distinguish input devices. Slack admins on paid plans can inspect sign-in devices and IP addresses, and Microsoft tenant admins can review sign-in logs. Those visibility limits also matter for Idle Pilot. Follow your workplace rules; availability is not proof of work. ### Idle Pilot Advantages - Maintains Slack or Microsoft Teams presence with the laptop closed, asleep, or off - Follows saved Work Hours from the cloud - Does not move your mouse or require a powered mover - One Slack workspace or one Teams account at a time, with the option to switch platforms ### TECH8 USA Mouse Mover Advantages - One-time hardware purchase instead of a recurring service - No software or browser extension required for operation - Uses an existing compatible mouse without linking Slack or Teams credentials - Can use a separate USB power source - Dual-disc variants have local activity and auto-off controls ## Which Should You Choose? **If** your saved presence schedule must continue when the computer sleeps or turns off Use: Idle Pilot **If** you want Slack or Teams availability without moving your cursor Use: Idle Pilot **If** you want to try a cloud presence schedule without buying hardware Use: Idle Pilot **If** you want local mouse activity and can keep the computer awake Use: TECH8 USA Mouse Mover **If** you prefer a one-time hardware purchase and no software installation Use: TECH8 USA Mouse Mover ## What is TECH8 USA Mouse Mover? Its FAQ says the mover helps prevent automatic Away in Teams; it does not name Slack. That is a vendor claim, not our test result. Microsoft and Slack control availability separately, and a local mover cannot maintain a session on a sleeping or powered-off computer. How much do TECH8 USA and Idle Pilot cost? On October 28, 2026, TECH8's homepage advertised the Vinyl Record model for $19.99. Other variants and prices differ; checkout stock was not confirmed. Idle Pilot costs $9 per month or $60 per year and includes a 3-day free trial without a credit card. Will TECH8 work with my laptop closed? The checked material does not document closed-lid operation. Its local mouse input requires an awake computer and cannot maintain presence when closing the lid puts the laptop to sleep. Idle Pilot's cloud schedule continues with the laptop closed, asleep, or off. Can my employer see a TECH8 mover or Idle Pilot? Possibly. Separate power avoids a USB data connection from the mover, but software can still observe mouse input. Slack admins on paid plans can inspect sign-in devices and IP addresses, and Microsoft tenant admins can review sign-in logs. No tool here comes with a privacy or workplace-approval guarantee. Do I need an extension or a special mouse? TECH8 uses a compatible physical mouse and does not require its own software installation. Idle Pilot does not move your mouse. Its first connection requires desktop Google Chrome and the Idle Pilot extension, which you can remove after linking; mobile-only linking is not supported. ## Related resources [Comparison Idle Pilot vs slack.green Idle Pilot fits Microsoft Teams users and Slack users who want Vacation Mode. sl... ](https://idlepilot.com/compare/idle-pilot-vs-slack-green/)[Comparison Does Caffeine Keep Slack Active?
