Presence scheduling for customer support agents

Idle Pilot lets an individual customer support agent schedule availability for one Slack workspace or Microsoft Teams account during reachable working hours. This is personal workplace chat presence, not a support queue or a team management service. It does not assign tickets, route customers, enforce response targets, or reply for you. A scheduled indicator cannot confirm that a request has been read or handled.

Illustrative situation

Illustrative scenario: internal availability while investigating an issue

Imagine a support specialist reviewing a printed troubleshooting checklist and discussing a reproduction step by phone. They remain reachable for internal questions while the laptop is inactive. This is an illustrative scenario, not a customer case study or research about support operations.

They set their own chat account's work window and lunch break. Idle Pilot maintains availability even if the laptop sleeps. Their support system still owns ticket assignments; the specialist reads requests, records findings, and communicates progress personally.

Before an additional unavailable break, they turn Work Hours off. At shift end, they complete handoffs through their usual process. Presence neither transfers a case nor confirms a colleague has accepted responsibility. Idle Pilot's contribution is the personal availability schedule.

Where a saved availability schedule helps

  • Match internal presence to your reachable shift

Choose when coworkers can reach you about cases or troubleshooting, with different hours per day if needed. The schedule cannot establish whether a customer is waiting or whether you can respond immediately.

  • Pause maintenance during your planned break

Set one Lunch break inside the window. Idle Pilot pauses availability maintenance, then resumes while the window remains open and the account is ready. Your own activity can still show you as active.

  • Keep handoff responsibility explicit

Check your finish time and pause earlier if unavailable. Communicate case ownership separately. When the window ends, Idle Pilot stops maintaining availability; your own workplace activity may still keep you looking active.

Set it up for your own account

  1. Connect your personal workplace on desktop Chrome In desktop Google Chrome, choose Slack or Microsoft Teams in Idle Pilot and complete the extension steps. Wait for confirmation and verify the workplace on Dashboard. This does not connect a helpdesk. You can remove the extension after linking.
  2. Check that your shift fits the editor Open Dashboard → Work Hours → Edit, select the days, and set From and To. Choose Apply to N days. The editor offers half-hour times from 6:00am to 11:00pm, one same-day window, and no overnight window. Review the saved rows before enabling Work Hours.
  3. Configure the break and schedule time zone In Edit Work Hours, enable Lunch break and set Break start and Break end inside your window, then apply. Reopen Dashboard → Work Hours → Edit and choose the current time-zone button to confirm the intended zone. One optional break is supported; several independent breaks or split shifts require controls the current editor does not offer.
  4. Manage exceptions from mobile after linking After desktop linking, manage hours or pause from your phone. Turn Work Hours off to stop immediately while preserving saved hours. Signing out does not pause scheduling. Review connection warnings and the next resume time before relying on it.

What it does not do

  • It does not route tickets, assign cases, integrate with a helpdesk, or provide customer auto-replies.
  • It does not track SLAs, monitor productivity, verify attendance, or measure handling time.
  • It does not administer a team, staff a queue, arrange coverage, or confirm a completed handoff.

It fits when

  • You want your own internal chat availability to follow a reachable, same-day working window.
  • Your routine fits the available half-hour choices and one optional lunch break per day.
  • Your support workflow already handles customer responses, assignments, and handoffs separately.

Choose something else when

  • You need overnight coverage, rotating shift assignment, split shifts, or multiple independent breaks.
  • You need a queue status to control ticket assignment or customer routing automatically.
  • You need shared administration, service guarantees, response monitoring, or a team license.

FAQ

Does this manage the availability of a support team?

No. It covers one individual's Slack workspace or Teams account at a time. It does not provide shared scheduling, agent assignment, team administration, or a support coverage dashboard.

Will my helpdesk stop assigning tickets during lunch?

No. Lunch break pauses Idle Pilot's availability maintenance only. Manage queue availability and handoffs through your support workflow; a presence change does not control ticket assignment or customer routing.

Can I configure an overnight support shift?

No. The editor offers half-hour times from 6:00am to 11:00pm, with From earlier than To on the same day. Overnight windows, split shifts, and several independent breaks are not offered.

Will the indicator confirm that I have read an escalation?

No. Idle Pilot neither reads chat nor acknowledges requests. Follow your escalation process personally. Availability is not proof of reading, completed work, response speed, or service coverage.

How do I pause for leave on Slack or Teams?

Pause Work Hours or disable the relevant days, then restore them on return. Slack-only Vacation Mode checks presets once at session start. Teams has no Vacation Mode; pause manually.

Is pricing based on tickets or the size of my team?

No. Freedom Pass costs $9 per month or $60 per year for one active Slack workspace or Teams account. The individual offer does not include a shared team license or helpdesk features.
