Who ranks for Teams presence searches?
In seven usable Google first-page captures for Teams presence questions, Reddit appeared in all seven and discussion or Q&A pages occupied 27 of 70 organic positions. The original sample contained ten queries; three were excluded from destination analysis. This is a search-result snapshot, not evidence that the listed advice works or that these sites receive a particular share of clicks.

Ten fixed queries captured on 2026-10-29 UTC for US desktop search in English. Destination findings use seven valid captures; feature findings use all ten.
Findings you can cite
| Finding | Value | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Queries captured | 10 | Fixed convenience sample of Teams presence queries, not the whole search market. Sources: Idle Pilot: Teams presence search capture and coding dataset |
| Usable destination captures | 7 | Two captures contained unresolved redirects and one returned no organic results; all three are excluded from destination counts. Sources: Idle Pilot: Teams presence search capture and coding dataset |
| Classified organic positions | 70 | First ten organic positions in each of the seven usable captures, classified using the published URL codebook. Sources: Idle Pilot: Teams presence search capture and coding dataset |
| Discussion and Q&A positions | 27 of 70 | Includes Microsoft-hosted community answers. A Microsoft domain alone is not necessarily official product documentation. Sources: Idle Pilot: Teams presence search capture and coding dataset |
| Reddit on a usable first page | 7 of 7 captures | Domain occurrence counted once per query even if several Reddit URLs appear. This does not measure Reddit’s traffic share. Sources: Idle Pilot: Teams presence search capture and coding dataset |
| AI Overview reported | 9 of 10 queries | Provider-returned feature flag across all requested queries. Destination exclusions do not change this separate denominator. Sources: Idle Pilot: Teams presence search capture and coding dataset |
| Video feature reported | 9 of 10 queries | Provider-reported video element, not views, engagement or a recommendation. Sources: Idle Pilot: Teams presence search capture and coding dataset |
The results are a mix of discussions, guides and video
A person searching for Teams presence help can encounter community discussion next to software publishers and product documentation. The categories below describe destination URLs, not the reliability of the claims on those pages. A discussion may contain good troubleshooting, but its ranking does not turn it into official documentation.
The categories are mutually exclusive. Microsoft Learn URLs under /answers/ count as Q&A, while Microsoft Support and other Microsoft Learn documentation count as documentation. Video or social platforms are classified separately from a video feature shown elsewhere in a result page.
| URL category | Organic positions | Denominator |
|---|---|---|
| Discussion or Q&A | 27 | 70 |
| Publisher or independent guide | 23 | 70 |
| Video or social platform | 16 | 70 |
| Microsoft documentation | 1 | 70 |
| App store listing | 3 | 70 |
Which domains appeared across the usable queries?
Domain frequency counts a domain once per query, even if more than one result points to it. This avoids giving a site extra reach merely because it appears twice on one results page. These are seven selected queries, so the count is not a market-share estimate.
Reddit and Microsoft Learn appeared across all seven usable captures. Microsoft Learn contains both documentation and community answers. Readers should inspect the page type and the underlying evidence rather than treating the hostname or search position as an endorsement.
| Domain | Queries with a top-ten result | Usable queries |
|---|---|---|
| reddit.com | 7 | 7 |
| learn.microsoft.com | 7 | 7 |
| youtube.com | 5 | 7 |
| reclaim.ai | 3 | 7 |
| tiktok.com | 3 | 7 |
| avnation.tv | 3 | 7 |
| krisp.ai | 3 | 7 |
| justanswer.com | 2 | 7 |
The ten queries and what was available to inspect
We retained every requested query in the table, including exclusions. Two captures returned unresolved Google redirect destinations, so their underlying site identities were not assumed. One query returned no organic results in the provider response; that does not prove Google has no results for it.
AI Overview and video flags describe a separate part of the capture. They are reported over all ten requests, while the destination table uses only the seven usable first pages. Keeping the denominators separate prevents an apparent precision the data does not support.

How to use a result about presence
Start with the product’s own documentation for what a status means. Then check the date, client platform, account type and conditions behind a suggested workaround. A page about keeping a screen awake answers a different question from a page about availability while a computer is off.
Search placement is not a test of effectiveness. This study did not run a mouse jiggler, observe a workplace session, or validate advice in the listed discussions. It also did not measure whether someone reads messages or performs work while a presence indicator is green.
Method
We used the existing ten-query Teams tracking set, covering green status, Away, device-off availability and tool searches. The exact queries are published in the dataset. The set was chosen for product relevance, not sampled at random or weighted by search volume.
Each Google request used the DataForSEO live advanced endpoint with United States, English, desktop and an organic depth of thirty. Destination analysis is restricted to the first ten organic positions. The downloadable dataset retains domain, rank and category without reproducing article text or social account handles.
Two captures with unresolved Google redirect destinations and one with no returned organic items were excluded from destination and page-type analysis. A parallel Bing capture failed relevance checks and is excluded from this public study. No Bing ranking conclusion is offered.
URL categories follow the codebook in the dataset. Each organic position receives one category; domain reach is separately deduplicated within each query. AI Overview and video flags come from returned feature types across all ten requests. Asynchronous AI Overview generation was not forced.
Limitations
- One provider snapshot per query; location, personalization, experiments and time can change the results.
- Seven usable destination captures are a small convenience sample. Overlapping queries are not independent samples of the search market.
- Unresolved and empty captures were excluded rather than filled with assumed destinations. The excluded queries may have a different mix of sites.
- The study measures returned results, not visibility to every user, clicks, visits, correctness, tool effectiveness or employer approval.
- Feature flags depend on what the provider returned. A missing flag does not establish that Google never shows that feature.
- The retained capture does not include provider task status codes or complete response items. It cannot distinguish a successful empty result from a missing or failed response for the empty capture. The feature totals count recorded flags across ten requests.
- The public dataset permits recalculating totals from the assigned categories, but omits destination URLs. Readers cannot independently repeat URL-path classification from that file alone.
What we could not establish
- Which domain receives the most actual visits for these searches.
- Whether high-ranking community advice reliably changes a Teams session.
- Any Bing conclusion, long-term trend or prediction of future rankings.
