Generate a Microsoft Teams status message
Give colleagues a clear explanation of your availability in words. Select a situation, add a return detail if useful, and edit a ready-made draft. This helper creates text locally; it does not sign in to Microsoft, inspect your calendar, or modify Teams presence.

How to use it
- Choose a situation and tone Pick the occasion that best describes your plans. Use Plain for a straightforward explanation, Friendly for a warmer ending, or Concise for a shorter message without the optional contact detail.
- Make the timing clear Enter a return time or date in your own words. Include the time zone when needed. Add an urgent contact only if that person or channel is actually available and appropriate for the audience.
- Review and copy Select Generate draft, revise the editable text, then select Copy text. If clipboard permission is unavailable, the draft is selected so you can use your keyboard or device’s Copy command instead.
Put the message into Teams
In Teams, select your profile picture and Set status message. Paste the draft, review Show when people message me if you want that behavior, choose when the message clears, and select Done. Check the saved wording rather than assuming a successful copy published it.
The wording is informational. It does not control the Available, Busy, or Away indicator, and the generator does not promise a particular response from colleagues. Presence and a message answer different questions.
Use a draft that fits your actual plan
A useful note gives a reader a next step: when to expect a reply or where to take something urgent. Avoid promising an exact return time you cannot meet. For a longer absence, use an out-of-office reply rather than stretching a short status into a detailed travel explanation.
Microsoft notes that a Teams status message can take precedence over displaying an Outlook automatic out-of-office reply. Review both if you use both features so that your messages do not give colleagues conflicting expectations.
What this tool can and cannot do
- No Microsoft connection, calendar lookup, auto-send, expiry scheduling, or notification control.
- The character count is informational. Review the text in your Teams client, which controls accepted length and available settings.
